The current Master of Fine Arts Candidates at the University of Windsor will be opening their studio doors and activating the downtown campus with a night of art and festivities.
MFA Open Studios presents itself as the perfect event to experience what the updated Armouries have to offer and to see how the students are making use of the new SoCA facilities while gaining insight into the unique and varied processes used by the MFA Candidates when working in their studio. All MFA studios and gallery spaces will be open for you to explore at your own pace, accompanied by refreshments and a map of the new facilities.
The event will take place Wednesday March 14th at 6:00 pm in the Windsor Armories, the new home for the School of Creative Arts, following a screening and an artist talk by The TUG Collective in the SoCA Gallery. The artist talk will take place at 4:30 pm and will focus on The TUG Collective’s exhibition Borders | Corridors | Lines of Desire, a new body of work which investigates the conflicting attitudes toward migration in American history. Their new film installation, The Turn Around, and Spaces of Appearance will be on view in the SoCA Gallery Space from Monday March 12 to Wednesday March 15, 2018.
Directly following, will be the MFA Open Studios, 6-8PM: MFA Candidates (both in Visual Arts, and Film and Media) at the University of Windsor will be showcasing their current work, ranging from; painting, sculpture, video, photography, bio-art, drawing, film and more. The MFA Open Studios will showcase the diverse range of practices of the MFA Candidates in Visual Arts and Film and Media who will be present to discuss both in-progress studio works as well as more resolved pieces, which will be installed throughout the Armories building.
Join the MFA Candidates for a night in downtown Windsor with art, community and culture. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
